Al-Jauhar: The Precious Jewel

Al-Jauhar: The Precious Jewel is a twenty four minutes documentary which has all the ingredients of historical fact about King Abu Bakar of Johore and his foreign policy in the past. This documentary, filmed on location in Johore and Adelaide, explores the life times of Abu Bakar, a 19th century King from the Johore region in the South of Malaysia. Abu Bakar was a modern thinker who saw connection with Europe and Australia as a way forward and much needed development for his kingdom. Combining interviews and vivid archival footage, it provides details information about his precious collection in the South Australian Museum as a sign of close relationship between him and Queen Victoria of England in the late of 19th century. Narrated by Michael Kumnick & Ahmad Adzlan Zainal Abidin, Al-Jauhar: The Precious Jewel is factual account of history and shows the adventure of researchers/archaeologist challenged to understand how King Abu Bakar changed Johore to a modern state in Malay Peninsula and standing tall under the colonial empire.
